About Me
Hey everyone! My name is Grant Myers and I am an Emory & Henry University graduate holding a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre. I was born in Milwaukee, WI, lived in both Abilene and San Antonio, TX as well as Winchester, VA before attending Emory & Henry. Along the way I discovered my passion for theatre and have been performing in musicals and plays since the age of 10. It's been a journey already, and I feel incredibly grateful for all of the love and support from my friends and family.
My first experience with theatre was a youth production of Annie, Jr., which I joined mostly because I wanted something to do for the summer. I enjoyed that a lot more than expected, returned for the camp/production the next two summers, and increased my interest in theatre after discovering two classic (but overdone) musicals Into The Woods and The Phantom of the Opera. I participated in plenty of plays and musicals in high school, attended and graduated from E&H and now I'm here: Excited and ready to progress my performance career in the best way that I can.
Along with theatre, I'm a bit of a choir nerd and have been involved in choir since the start of high school. I participated in a variety of choirs throughout high school and continued that involvement in college by being a member of Emory & Henry's Concert Choir all four years I attended. In another life (and with more time in my day) I would love to dive deeper into music theory and composition. I'm also a movie/TV nerd and am a fan of many genres, but am nowhere near a film buff or anything like that (I just appreciate artists' creativity in any form).
I overall find performance to be incredibly impactful not only on myself but on anyone else involved. I truly value it for how much it has helped me grow as a person and for the positive impacts it can have on others. Whether it be offering a needed escape from reality or providing life-changing educational opportunities, I am excited and proud to be working in this field.
About Me: My Experience
ACTING
My first experience in acting was in the first show I ever performed in: Annie, Jr., as a few ensemble characters at the age of 10. Besides musicals, I performed in a couple one-act plays in high school but didn't receive more in-depth acting training until college, which I truly enjoyed the entire time I was there. I've taken several acting classes at Emory & Henry College which have involved anything from Stanislavski technique to Stage Combat and to Meisner technique with Professor Patrice Foster, all of which have immensely helped me grow as a performer. All of this training has helped me play various roles such as Professor Callahan in Legally Blonde, Peter Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream, a fun Uncle in Blue Gate's Our Christmas Dinner, and Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening.
SINGING
I've been singing ever since I was about 5 or 6 years old, whether that was writing my own "songs" or keeping up to date with whatever musicals were on Disney Channel. My love for singing definitely grew when I performed in my first musical, and continued to grow at the same time when my passion for musical theatre became clearer: when I discovered Into the Woods and The Phantom of the Opera. From there, I participated in the Varsity, Concert and Jazz choirs throughout high school, and was even selected for the NAfME All-National Choir my senior year. I received incredible vocal training at Emory & Henry with Zacchaeus Kimbrell, who helped me with adapting to a wide variety of roles as well as improving my range and technique in general (I'm now a proud Baritenor who once thought I couldn't break out of the golden age, Baritone box - although I still love singing anything and everything).
DANCING
My first dance experience was in the first few musicals I performed in, such as Annie, Jr. and The Music Man. The first formal dance classes I took were in high school, mostly musical theatre-style classes from Mary Robare of Shenandoah University. I gained some more dance experience with roles such as Scuttle in The Little Mermaid, but I have definitely grown the most through classes and performances at Emory & Henry. I've taken ballet, jazz, tap and many other classes from Annalee Tull at Emory, who's greatly helped my technique and confidence as a mover. All of that helped me to go on and perform in roles such as a newsie in Newsies, a dancing waiter in both Hello, Dolly and Cinderella, and in a dance-centric role in Emory's 2021 original musical, It's All Relative.
